Evening all,

I've just finished watching the full game on dvd and here's what I think.

1st half:

We were by far the better team, we passed the ball around nicely and kept possession for good periods of time. However, our big failure was that we couldn't turn our possession into clear chances instead we chose to shoot from long distances several times with many shots going off target and not making their goalkeeper work. Although we kept possession well, our build up play is too slow. We need to show more urgency when we go forward. If possible then 2 touch passing is the way forward. Our goal came about through defending a corner with Iker intercepting the pass and breaking away on a counter attack and neatly finishing the ball underneath their keeper's legs. We need to be 100% concentrated on corners and always look to intercept passes and to look for a fast breakaway. At this point we were 1-0 ahead and looking very comfortable without them really causing us too many problems and looking to score a second but then looking comfortable suddenly turned into us making silly mistakes. Their 1st goal came from the fact that they had a corner and Aitor collected convincingly though when he had the ball in his hands he had no player to throw it to as we were too slow at getting out from the corner resulting in their player intercepting a pass and finishing without a challenge being made. Again the urgency factor comes into play here. Their 2nd goal came from a corner we had which was badly taken resulting in the corner being cut out at the 1st stage leaving 1 of their players to counter attack against 2 defenders. Somehow he managed to score. With 2 defenders it shouldn't have happened.

2nd half:

To be completely honest with you all, the 2nd half was a disgrace. It's probably the worst half we've played all season. We completely lost our shape, there was little movement off the ball. The passing and first touch control were atrocious and we hardly got near their goal and we didn't test their keeper. We lost all forms of simplicity. There were too many times when players were keeping the ball for too long and ended up losing possession. Our 2 2nd half goals came from well worked attacks (the very few that we did manage)

Conclusion:

Overall I think that if we play like we did in the 1st half we will beat most teams in the league if we turn our possession into goals but if we play like we did in the 2nd half then it's gonna be a tough finale to the season. I would like to see more aggression from everyone. 10 aggressive players is far better than the usual 3 or 4 who are aggressive every week. We need to take advantage of the size of Pablo. High balls aimed at his chest will be a better option than to his feet. I want to see more 1-2 passes. I want to see a person who plays a pass look for a return pass or move into space and not just stand still. We need shooting practice too. At the next training session we will also have to work on corner strategies for defensive and offensive occasions, and work on attacking faster by means of faster passing and more movement.

They never beat us, we handed them the game on a plate by silly mistakes. They didn't have too many clear chances to score which was pleasing to see however the viewing of the silly mistakes leaves a sour taste.

Next Match:

Next match is against Apellaniz. They're a decent physical team so we will have to match them in every area of the pitch to avenge the 1-5 defeat they gave us earlier on in the season. They're are coming into the game with 2 consecutive defeats yet they are still in contention for 4th and 3rd place as they are only a point behind us. They will be up for this game and we have to make sure that we do the simple things and not piss about and win the game comfortably

See you all soon,

Cheers

Lee
